Solution

Belts Too Long at Installation

Wrong size belts.

See dealer for correct belt.

Drive set up improperly.

Recheck machine.

Insufficient take-up.

Correct. See dealer for correct belt.

Belts Too Short at Installation

Wrong size belts.

See dealer for correct belt.

Drive set up improperly.

Recheck machine.

Insufficient take-up.

Correct. See dealer.

Belts stored in damp area.

Dry in even 250*F for two hours.

Belts Mismatched at Installation

Poorly matched at factory.

Replace with a new set of belt.

Old belts and new belts mixed on same drive.

Never install new belts with old belts.

Mixed set of belts from one than one manufacturer.

Replace belts. Replace with a new set from one manufacturer.

Pulley shaft not parallel, causing unequal stretch.

Realign drive.

Worn or improperly machined sheaves.

Replace sheaves or recut to correct dimensions.

Belts Mismatched after services

Old belts & new belts mixed on same drive.

Never install new belts with old belts.

Mixed set of belts from one than one manufacturer.

Replace with new belts.
Replace with a new set from one manufacturer.

Pulley shaft not parallel.

Realign drive.

Worn or improperly machined sheaves.

Replace sheaves or recut to correct dimensions.

Tensile member damaged during installation.

Replace with new belts, properly installed.

Loss in Driven Speed

Pulley ratios not correct.

Check ratio of sheaves diameter against ratio of RPM- change to correct pulleys.

Excessive Slip.

Check-shut down drive-test sheave temperature by feel. A badly slipping belt will heat sheave so that it nearly burns operator's bare hand.

Loose belt.

Check for proper tensions.

Localised wear

Incorrect Sheaves diameters.

Check cross-section dimension. If narrow-pulley spin. If full-internal break down and resultant swell.

Belt Envelope Hardening and Cracking

Heat and chemical fumes.

Check working conditions provide ventilation.

Belt Squeal

High starting load or excessive overload.

Tighten belt.

Belt Break Prematurely

Shock or extreme overload.

Operate machine properly. See dealer for proper belt.

Belts damaged during installation.

Follow recommended installation procedure.

Foreign material falling into drive causing abnormal abrasion.

Provide drive guard.

Small pulleys causing separation.

Check sheave dimensions.

Excessive tension, causing separation.

Check Pulley diameters and ratios.
Adjust tensions.
